Followed by a debate with Alfredo Almendro, the poet Bahia Awah and Juan Robles, professor of social anthropology.
“Provincia53” evokes the situation of the 53rd province of Spain, colonised at the end of the 19th century and abandoned in 1976, in other words the situation of Western Sahara. Based on the testimonies of Saharawis and Spaniards who lived during the colonial period, the documentary aims in particular to make the younger generations aware of this cross history that links Spaniards and Saharawis. It also highlights Spain’s responsibility in the resolution of the Western Sahara conflict, the consequences of which still exist 43 years later.
